Planning cleaning in a home with several floors

Think about access and priorities before deciding the order of work.

Map the rooms that are included

List each floor, the rooms to be cleaned and any spaces that should remain closed. In a Queen Anne house, apartment or townhome, stairs may be part of the access route or part of the selected cleaning area. Make that distinction clear.

Clear the path between spaces

Put loose belongings away from stairs and hallways so the route is usable. Secure pets according to your arrangements and leave fragile objects in a safe place. Let people in the home know when rooms need to be accessible.

Set priorities before the visit

Explain which kitchens, bathrooms and living areas need the most attention, and note any specialty surfaces. Share the size and condition of the home when booking. Review the scope and extras instead of assuming that every room, storage area or detailed task is included.
